Is anyone going? Any tips? I've only had mine out once jigging so far and had a blast. Looks like we got a campsite at the resort for the 2 nights and a few guys are already registered. Wish me luck, probably need it

Hi Ed, I may be going depending on work scheduling and family plans for that weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Hell yes, we are all booked up. We are dragging the trailer up there so if you go, I'll have a cold one for ya. We have a white 2005 F150 and 27' Jaco trailer, hope to see ya there. It's quite a haul

I'm heading out there on the 29th, probably hit a couple other hot spots on the island and then the 1-5 in Moutcha... do a couple days pre-gaming/scouting ;)

Figured there would others getting the jump on me. I really just want to enjoy myself more than concentrate on winning the derby as I've only been in the kayak  once in the ocean, it was a 5' chop though

Trust me, i dont expect to have a shot, but pre-game/scouting never hurts .... but my concentration is just to catch a couple! for the dinner table... never done salmon out of a kayak so it'll be a learning game.. i'm in a Hobie so it should help a bit for downrigging and fast trolling a plug

Hope everyone has a great time at the fishing derby. I was planning the trip but just cannot justify the cost of bringing a travel trailer across on bc ferries.
Hopefully lots of nice pictures of the derby and fish!! :)

I'm going to have to work through the Labour Day weekend so I won't be able to make it and my fishing buddy won't go if I'm not. Its a bummer but I had a tentative shutdown date for our fisheries project that changed with the late fish showing up. On the flip side at least there are fish showing up now. It's dissapointing but now I may go over to Nanaimo the following weekend for pinks, either that or fly fish some lakes in the interior if the weather keeps cooling and just get out fishing somewhere. Good luck out there this weekend.

DBam - Where in BC are you?  I would like to try fishing the Cap in the next couple weeks.  I have been out to The Bell with no luck so far but just as the fish start rolling in I have to work!

Great derby, 60 people showed up but only 3 salmon in 2 days. I ended up limiting out on rock fish once I realized the salmon went up stream.

What a bummer!! Only three fish caught in the derby? Happy now that I didn't spend the money on bc ferries to get across! Amazing that all the fish were already upriver.
