Sassy Feeder Springer

MurseStrong:
It was an Epic day for everyone. Left my house at 2:30am to meet Matt & Onefish at PC & launch by 5am. A few minutes into the troll my new Lamiglas XCC 1064 starts tapping & I wait and watch in amazement as every inch of that rod loaded up before burying into the salt. With a 20+lb nook in my ice bag, it didn’t stop there. Double digit acrobatic coho fights to find a hatchery. Most of the coho are coming in FAT at 10-13 lbs.
Water temp was 50 at the beach & never changed more than a degree or so. We found a crazy coho bite from 140-170 FOW. We found success with herring, spinners, & hoochie spinners. It’s one of those days; grateful you didn’t hit that snooze button. Trust your gut instead of chasing perfect reports or forecasts. Don’t take the wife’s “NO” for an answer but push for a compromise to make it happen. Today is a day we can all remember & only hope to repeat. Carpe Diem.

Fred it was a pleasure to finally meet you.
Finding bait & rips proved effective with anywhere from 24-30 ft line out. The Chinook had 3 full calamari in its mouth when she took her last breath. With that said, this little pink home made hoochie spinner was the hot lure & accounted for 7 of the 12 fish I hooked, including a Jack chinook. She went 32”x22”

If you’re not getting bit, try this start reeling up or letting line out while still trolling with the rod in the holder;)

Nice report and tips

MurseStrong:
Today I blasted past the PC surf on a mission to get out & back to Portland by noon with a limit. I only had to hit the 120 FOW line to get into a pod of BIG coho! I bit my lip as I quickly headed in past lingcod territory without even dropping a line. Nonetheless a quick limit, amazing acrobatic fights and freight train bites. A single 12 lb coho will feed over 15 people! Get after them there are s lot of salmon feeding in the ocean right now.

I like to scale my coho before I filet them, especially with these ocean coho full of silver scales. You end up with a better product that can’t be beat in a cedar plank of just grilled skin side down. If you do grill on a cedar plank make sure you grill the plank before you place the fish on it to cook. Fish on!
