CHINOOK SHOWDOWN SPRING SALMON DERBY
Ready to slay some Springers? It is time for Next Adventure's 5th Annual Chinook Showdown: Spring Salmon Derby. Open to kayak (and SUP) anglers of all ages, all proceeds from this fun event benefit the Portland chapter of Heroes on the Water (HOW). Join us for a day of great company, great food, and (with luck) great fishing.

Your registration fee includes entry into derby and lunch at weigh in. Additional non-angler meal tickets will be available for friends and family, again benefiting HOW.

Awards will be given for Biggest Overall Fish, Biggest Limit, and Top Finishing Junior Angler. All awards are determined by weight.

NOTE: All anglers must complete and return a liability waiver prior to event. Waivers may be returned by mail or in person at the Next Adventure PSC, or at day-of registration at the PSC. There will be no event check-in if pre-registered; simply go fish and bring your fish to the PSC for weigh in between 11am and 2pm. Fish MUST be gilled and gutted (aka cleaned but not filleted) prior to weigh in.

Sign up before May 1st to save $10 on registration! May 1st and later, will be full price at $30.

Weigh in, food, and award ceremony will take place at the PSC. To keep the party atmosphere, we will be offering 15% off in stock items (excluding boats and electronics). Please use offsite/street parking for this event.

Yesterday the registration was supposed to go up. I just now registered and it's still $20. Fishing is getting good. Come on out and support HOW.

Thanks for the reminder.  Almost done signing up.  After checking out I'm curious about the big fish jackpot for $5 question.  How is it different than the main big fish award?

I think the grand prize is merchandise. If you enter the pot you get the cash. If you don't enter the pot no cash.

I just got a note from the folks at NA. Right now it looks like we're below the minimum threshold for this event to happen. If you want to compete SIGN UP NOW. They're going to make the decision whether to hold the event or not early next week. If the event is not held you will receive a refund.

Let's go fishing!!
The river will likely be in great shape for easy fishing by the 18th. The clouds and potential rain next week should cool the water a bit and slow the fish down while at the same time not muddy up the water. Great for running two rods with wide roll flashers and spinners or small baits!
See you on the water!

I would suggest a season long tournament like Fisherman's.  A one day, 8 hour tournament for a fish that is not in abundance in recent years may have had an impact on sign-ups.  It is a great fund raiser. I wanted to sign up, but I will be in Bend working.

The possibility of a "Shad Showdown" has been raised.
