Ok, its official.  Putting a Boonedox on a PA14 is a PITA but I got it done today (my inner biceps are raw).  Thank goodness for the internet and so many people willing to share the tricks of the trade.  What are you changing on your yak?

Do you think you'll add a tramp, haka, both?

Not sure.  I already have a tramp for my AI so I can try it.  It makes launching a bit more challenging.  Waiting on two new 1010 series struts (1" x 1") to finish the xbars.  Also waiting on a 1515 series bar (1.5" x 1.5") to attach to the top of the boonedox to serve as a base mount.  I had some scrap 1010 stock from the aluminum recycle center which I used to figure the bar positioning.  Like most things its "hurry up and wait".

I like the haka that aussieonyak has in this thread: https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=37645&start=645

Seems like a good design that allows for easy stowing of the outrigger.  I'd like to do something similar but with a spine board: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N3XJZG1/?coliid=I2MFZ8HIWE7J7Y&colid=1P7S5Q838DHWZ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The hakas on the link are really nice.  They are beautiful and he put a lot of work into building them.  I think I would prefer this over the tramp because you can still paddle.  Pretty ingenious idea using a EMT backboard for a haka.  Lightweight, floats, waterproof, and the handholds could be utilized for attachment points to the akas.  Dang. now I will probably have to buy one to try it out (lime green for visibility I think).

I'm looking forward to seeing the fruit of your labor, Ralph!  I'm imagining you'll have quite the seaworthy offshore kayak once you're done!

Hopefully, I won't be too far behind you on my build (if Hobie ever ships my stuff).  I think the easy retractability of the ama will be crucial for longevity.  Sounds like more than a few people have taco'd their akas in the surf.  I'll have an outboard because of joint issues which prevent me from having fun with just human-peddled power.  :(  Not flipping on the trip back is a big priority for me.
