Saw this boat in a Bass Pro ad yesterday, showed it to my friend, who is looking for his first kayak.
He was already leaning toward Hobie, I think he'll definitely go that route now.

Also, sharpen your knives!
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

3 miles out, a guy in the water and the other goober hasn't bother to put on his PFD, if he even has one
No radios.

Darwin gives a sad little smile, and says next time.

I watched that, and added a comment on stuffing his hull with pool noodles and the use of those silly PFD things we wear (with a *sharp* knife and a waterproof VHF attached), and that if he was up here in the PNW he'd have been dead.  He did respond back with a "Live and learn, yeah..." - so maybe there's hope for him yet.
Junk Jigs "BEST USE OF ACTUAL JUNK" category - "That tape should have been a prized possession and not junk. That will be a collectors item in 30 years!” & “There sure is a lot of junk in there.”

Yeah, we can only hope that video will serve to educate others!

There's no hope for educating people anymore.  They buy plastic personal bass boats and start yelling about needing to get "Salty, salty salty" without any saltwater experience, never having practiced for an emergency, and without a lick of common sense.

It becoming predominant in the sport and, more sadly, too close to common in forums where we preach about personal safety all the time.

I think this thread belongs in the "For Safety's Sake" board where folks might take a lesson from it.
I expected the worst, but it was worse than I expected...

Most definitely.  He had a motor on it as well.  This also proves, you can't expect help from a little boat.  Not to disrespect the guy, but if you struggle pulling your kayak down the beach, maybe you should not beach launch or go 3 miles off shore!  I don't think he tried to flip it back over.  Obviously, did not practice self rescue!

"And my boat actually cracked, so the hull was full of water and that's how I capsized in the first place."

Maybe I'm weird but after I launch on any large body of water I usually check inside after about 10 min to see if I'm taking on water.

Did they recover the boat?

That’s a classic vid! Glad the guy is ok. A little funny to see his gears switch from “YouTuber” to “this is a real situation”. Red shirt guy incredibly low key throughout, that’s some Southern action. Not sure about the “this isn’t our fault” stuff, things happen and you can’t assume the cavalry. Must have been a spendy little session.

No, he never tried to flip it.

He said that the boat was towed to shore, was able to recover some gear.

Apparently, Bass Pro Shops refuse to help him in any way, just refer him to Ascend, and last I saw, he has yet to be able to get in touch with customer service, despite the 3 year warranty he was issued.

Not weird to check for water after launching, probably a very wise practice!

That's hard to watch, so many things wrong on so many levels.

Years ago, was on the water with FFTW (FishesFromTupperware) in Florida and had had enough so hit the beach. Only to watch our OG Mensch turn around off the beach and go do a rescue of two ladies in individual boats. Boats remarkably like the one in the video.

So , what next? Police ourselves? Let the legislators regulate us into kindergarten like rules of the road? Sure the incident didn't happen up here, but how many of you have seen something similar happen when you've been on the water?
Why so many odd typos ? You try typing on 6 mm virtual keys with 26 mm thumbs....
