Hi folks. I just moved here from the mountains of VA, where I did a fair bit of river and pond fishing, mostly for bass. I brought a 10' Lifetime Tamarac Angler, which I hope to do some fishing  from here, both for bass in the lakes, and whatever I can catch in the sound. Unfortunately it will be over a month before I can get my Washington drivers license, and another several months before I am eligible for in-state fishing licenses. I will probably get a 3 day at some point, but man, out of state licenses are priced astronomically here. Anyways, maybe I will be able to save up for a better boat in the meantime. Anyone else in Kingston?

Welcome!  Sorry you have to wait for your license.

FYI - there is usually a "free fishing" weekend sometime around the beginning of June...I don't think 2021 has been specified yet, but if you don't have your license by then it might be an option.

Welcome! You’ve landed in a good place both with regards to Kingston and NWKA. A lot to learn re: getting out on the Sound + for salmon, but there’s a ton of intel and good folks on this site.

I would second your thought about saving up for a better kayak. I had one of those Lifetime Tamarack kayaks as a 3rd for when we had friends over. The hulls are extremely thin, the last time we took it out it got a small cut in it (likely from a barnacle) and took on water really quickly. Maybe ok in freshwater with easy launches, but the water in the Sound is cold, likewise currents could be an issue for a boat taking on water. I tossed ours. May be good timing for a project for you ahead of the Sound’s summer salmon seasons.

Hey Trebela,

Welcome to the club!  I am over in Bremerton.  Check out Kitsap County Kayaking and Fishing, there are a lot of local on there.  You can launch out of Kingston marina or from the park across from it.  Watch the tides, as the park can turn into a mud flat if you don't pay attention.  I have seen guys in inflatable tubes with electric trolling motors out there for flounder by the ferry area.  You can paddle/troll for salmon not far from the launch. Bring a handheld radio with so you can communicate and or call for help.  That area will be covered with boats for salmon.    I am trying to get up there soon  won't be for a couple of weeks, but I know others who go out of there. You should be able to hook up with them. Look forward to seeing you out there!
