Greetings all,

Watched a lot of YouTube over the lockdown and decided to dive in this year. Just received a new Old Town Bigwater 132 PDL and got it set up for the season.

Located in Oakland, OR so will be primarily fishing Coos Bay and Sunset bay when the swell is light.

Watching videos of “roger dodger” catch a Calibut has me anxiously waiting for July/August so I can target these as well.

Fished most of my life and also owned boats most of my life. Had a WW kayak in college, but this is the first on a boat like this.

Sprung for all the safety items I’ll need, Kokatat dry suit, marine radio, etc.

Will be doing some roll drills this weekend and then maybe next weekend the swell will cooperate so I can try sunset bay.

Have my kayak on a trailer as I don’t know if I wear big enough boots to lift a 100lb boat on top of my Subaru. Anyone know if there is ample parking for a car with kayak trailer at sunset?

Looking forward to getting out there.

Cheers

Welcome to the NWKA forum.  Sounds like you have been busy gathering gear.  Post a picture of your setup.

Welcome to the group and yes there is ample parking for a car and trailer, usually they park on the right side of the boat ramp.

Thanks for the response. I think trailer will be much easier than a car rack.

Sweet ride, I ordered the same one in the same color, hoping it’ll show up this month. 🍻

Congratulations on the new toy.

I just received my PDL 120 a few weeks ago. It's my first kayak/watercraft so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it's a blast.

Best of luck on the water.

excellent, there is plenty of parking, from the road down to the beach at the north end, all the way back to that huge parking area by the restrooms, you can park along the road on the bay side.

when I was there in late October, they unlocked the gate ~30 minutes before sunrise.  I think the sign says "Open Daylight Hours", so I'm guessing they lock it ~30 minutes after sunset.  cheers.
