I went out of Pacific City this morning, hit the water about 6:45.   Lots of dory boats were heading out.   Northwest breeze was already there.   C&R'd a couple of cabezon and one underling. Didn't find any black rockfish until I got to the west side of the rock where I found a limit.  Picked up one legal ling.   Whale was milling around for a short bit.  Good day on the water.

Someone in a PA14 lost a drive in the surf when they did a yard sale.   Keep an eye out.

Does "yard sale" stand for someone with sticky fingers walking by or didn't have a tether hooked up to the drive and lost it over the side? I am not up on all the vernacular. ???

no tether on the drive as he dumped in the surf and spilled his gear in the water.   If he would have at least put a small buoy on it he might have found it.   I looked for it with him a short bit but the sand moves around so much plus the action of the surf, makes it really hard to find in waist deep water that is not very clear.
"A venturesome minority will always be eager to get off on their own,
and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."

Well, not a very productive day off Forgerty.
No yard sale tho, so that's a plus.
Thanks to Drifter for taking me out to the deep reef!
Conditions were great, but the fish just weren't biting.
Metered countless schools of blacks, that just wouldn't bite.
There were three of us, with a grand total of four legal lings, and two black rockfish kept.
We all released some underlings, and there were a couple cabs as well.
Water was an off color, saw quite a few boats out, but not much action for any of them.
Fishing was great, catching sucked!
Better than working!
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

As expensive as replacement drives are, I make sure mine are always tethered.  I prefer not to learn things the hard way........

It was my first beach launch/landing.
I was a bit nervous about it, so had everything tethered, and had even unhooked my finder and placed it in the forward compartment of my Outback.
Luckily for me, there was no issue with waves at Fogerty yesterday.
Better safe than sorry tho!

unless it's a 1' surf all week, I always, ALWAYS tether EVERYTHING down when launching/landing. Had too many good calm days where I've seen people wipe out, or wiped out myself. No matter your skill level or how long you've been doing it, there is a certain aspect of luck involved. I've lost exactly $0 in gear over my 4 or 5 wipeouts over the years. It only takes a few minutes to bungee everything down or secure it all inside the bow or center of the boat. Plus it's more fun to try and surf in than come in between breakers. If losing gear isn't a concern you'd be surprised how much fun surfing an outback in is ;)

I had fun yesterday showing you guys around. I am still pretty sore, that was a lot of paddling! I actually kind of dumped my kayak on the landing. I just didn't time the waves well and was still heading east as the wave was washing back to the west. I didn't lose anything out of the kayak as I had most everything stowed or on a leash.

Oh no!
Glad you n your gear are ok.
There were no real waves to speak of, when Frank n I came in, luckily.
I'm a lil sore too, but I think more from getting the boat back to my truck, than propelling myself on the water.
Thanks again, and looking forward to more trips in the future!
