swell, wind, and tides all looking almost perfect, I'm planning to fish Simpson Reef unless things change significantly.

Good luck, wish it were closer. Looking forward to report?

I’m looking at the 18th to take my new boat out for it’s maiden voyage from sunset. I may decide to add the 19th to the list as well if it’s quiet at work on Friday and nobody decides to put a conference call on my calendar.

Roger, as a newby, how would you rate the msw forecast for Sunday? Obviously Monday is the preferred option.

Thx

if Sunday was the best day this cycle, I would go for sure, especially with the light wind and favorable tides.  Based on about 20 trips out there since 2016, I consider the MSW forecast for that location (CoosBay) very good provided you take into account all of the swell components and note that they don't separate out 'wind waves' (they are usually in there as a short period swell).  With a big reef south and reefs going out to the NW, things can really bounce around on mixed swell days so that you are getting hit from multiple directions.  I've been out on several 'washing machine' days, difficult to fish.

I have learned to avoid '3+3' and '4+2' days unless they are on longer periods.  I think that is where Sunday falls.

On a day like Monday, where it looks like it will go flat about 9am, I'm going to beat feet (and burn electrons) to Simpson Reef, drop my crab pots over sand off the 'Glass House', and work my way around the west end of Simpson, and plan for a longer outing.  On a day like Sunday, I am more likely to head NW towards the whistle buoy, get fishing quickly, along and between those reefs and off the west end of them.

good luck, hope to see you out there Monday if you go!  roger

Appreciate the information. I am going to try to hit both days and if I do will keep an eye out for you. Good luck fishing.

Thanks.

I agree with Roger about Sunday.  No go.  The last time I tried Sunset in conditions similar to those forecast for Sunday, it taught me all I need to know about the right conditions to run Sunset Bay to Simpson Reef.  I wouldn't do it, either.
I expected the worst, but it was worse than I expected...

Newby mistake. I just relooked at the msw forecast and understand what roger was saying. I guess I’ll try for the rr bridge on Sunday and save sunset for Monday if possible.

Appreciate the response.

yes, MSW, Tuesday is a serious NO.  Sunday doesn't look too bad and Monday looks really good.
