Launched at appx 7am and was lucky enough to meet up with Roger Dodger and one other new to the sport (like me). Started fishing near Simpson reef and fished about 2-2.5 hours had 6 black rockfish and 2 keeper Ling (1 at 24ish and 1 at close to 32”). Fished a while longer since the swell was low and the bite was hot! Landed about 15 more rockfish in the shallows (20-30ft) and about 15-20 more Ling, all but 1 being a solid keeper. Also caught a monster cabbie that spit the hook at the boat. No matter, couldn’t of kept him anyway. Never caught so many fish in such a short amount of time. Back to the car by 11:15am. Picture perfect weather, swell and bite! Would love more days like today.

Big Thankyou to Roger Dodger for letting me tag along. Such a perfect day of fishing!

6” shad tail on a 4oz jig was a winner today.

Awesome report and glad you got out into the salt on such a fine day.  Ocean fishing is the new lifeblood to my fishing passion (addiction?), and glad to hear you're hooked as well...really happy to hear so many good reports from today.  Hopefully we can meet up sometime soon - maybe on the next weather window!

sweet day, I kept a small ling early on that was injured and legal, then held out for a big one and fished a 'big ling' area off the west end of Simpson reef but just brought up lings under like 28".  an excellent thing was that everyone else limited and we all got nice sized BRF, I think my smallest was 2.5#, largest just under 4#.

this is the initial sort on my box trap (which is upside down) that had a long soak, too much wind chop to do more until back in the bay, final count- 11 keepers.  There were 5 keepers in my other trap, so it was a very crabby day.

It was great fishing with both of you yesterday. Learned so much about the unique fishery under the patient tutelage of Professor Roger :). That day will be a lifelong memory and here’s to making many, many more.
