Looking for a good spot to bring my tent trailer and kayak and hit the water for halibut and crab or prawns, I am from the lower mainland and don't know the island all that well, I did stay at pedder bay resort last June and we found an excellent crabbing spot ( huge crabs) and we did charter a boat and got 2 25lb Hali but we had to go 5 miles out.

I am currently in the process of finishing my yak with a down rigger and fishfinder and would like to find a place where there is decent bottom fishing and salmon if this is possible.

I appreciate any help in advance and have some good fishing lakes in the caribou area that I can advise on.

hey beerdrinker--you might try Jordan River--there's a campsite at the river mouth and the hali spots are not too far out. Jordan River is further up the coast highway towards Port Renfrew. Hali Season opens March 1st--I'm getting geared up this weekend.
BTW--If you do choose to go back to Pedder, there is a couple of hali spots out off the prison at William Head(Club Fed, we call it around here) which are doable by kayak from the marina.

I was just on Google earth looking for a campsite near Jordan River, any chance you know the name of the site? or is it provincial?

Cut plugging is a good method for both hali and salmon although using bait down near the bottom for halis by June/July can be tough as the dogfish move in and you find yourself yarding up non stop dogfish. Most people switch to artificials for halis by then for that reason. There is no reason to not cutplug for salmon at that time tho--good luck!
