Hey all,

I have been paddling for quite a few years now, but am pretty new to fishing from a kayak.  Anyone have any luck for springs from a yak on the south east side of VI? I'v gone out around Crofton a few times with no luck so far.  Am I wasting my time around there?  Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the paddling but a fish would be nice.   Any advice (on gear or location) would be great.   Also if anyone in the area wants to do a trip I would be game.

Welcome.  Right on, another Islander!  Not too many of us on here.

Sorry I can't speak to springs as far south as Crofton but have heard that they are in close to some areas in Nanaimo.  I've seen some hali carcasses at a boat ramp so I know they are around too.  I'd be into meeting up.  I've been fishing freshwater lately as the lakes are hot but would be into getting salty.  Let me know.

Thanks for the advice guys!  I will definitely be bookmarking that thread for sportfishingbc.  Thanks tsquared.
It's nice to know there is the occasional hali coming from around the gulf islands.
My plan for this weekend is to fish around Crofton again on Saturday.  Don't know if there's anything there, but if the hooks in the water at least there's a chance.  Its a nice sheltered area... a good place to get used to the fishing gear before venturing out further.
Ill let you know how I make out.
Cheers!

Good luck today!. I'll be in your neighborhood over on Saltspring for a family function. Out in front of my place (Albert Head)it's flat with a great halibut tide and I can see the boys already anchored. Wishin I was fishin.

Spent yesterday on the water, caught a few ling and rock cod, nothing big though.  Great weather and the water was like glass.  All in all a great way to spend the Saturday.
