That is a good price.  They work on Outbacks even better:

Nice install and do suggest installing the sailing rudder.
My first down rigger was on a 2010 Outback and the hand operated Scotty using just a 2.5# ball caused the kayak to severely crab until I swapped the rudder.
In 2012 I bought a new 2013 PA-14 and installed a Canon 12 volt mini-Mag down rigger and again needed to swap the rudder for the sailing version. Reducing the boom length helped too and I was able to point the boom forward so I could read the counter. I assume the newer PA's with the additional drop down skeg helps to prevent crabbing with heavier weights.
This is a link to a old post I made with the Canon down rigger.

Next adventure (I think the downtown paddlesports and scappoose) are running 50% off rods. Its all Daiwa stuff and there are some gems left (at least as of Thursday at the PS center) including: FT Boat rods for 10 dollars.  At least one Harrier jigging stick for 50. Some high end spinning rods for trout and bass.

I got a Chinook PFD about a year ago, and really like it!
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Dollar to yen is at $150.54 this morning, the highest in 30+ years.  If you want to take advantage of it with some new JDM gear, this is a great site https://www.digitaka.com/

Most reels ship for free.

West marine is doing its yearly clearance sale, there's some pretty decent deals on some stuff. Unfortunately I don't have the time to dig through it all but if you're looking for something specific then they may have a deal for you.

Thank you Matt!
This was a very useful post!

I had been checking their clearance section on the website and was still going back and forth whether I should buy some more Shimano Tekota reels (I have one and LOVE it). The price was good. Good that I waited though as they just added another 25% off clearance. The price is now the lowest i have ever seen anywhere on Tekotas. Time to retire my Okuma Coldwaters!

With the additional 25% off they now have a lot of rods and reels for REALLY good prices. Especially if you are in need for short rods for ocean fishing, there is plenty to choose from.

Spending a little more time looking at this here's a few things I like or could recommend along with the deel on the Tekota's Stinger referenced.

Garmin Inreach mini - This is a tool I've had for 3 or 4 years now I believe? It's great when in areas with no cell coverage. I've only needed it to communicate with family and friends but it's been invaluable in that capacity. See previous posts by Rogerdodger on some possible shortcomings of it, but for the purposes of basic communication it's fantastic. https://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=23939.msg242948#msg242948
Garmin now has the inreach mini 2 which is updated, but also $400

The Shimano Curado K reels are among my favorites for casting reels. They're well made at a reasonablish price. I've found them at similar sale prices before, but this is a solid price for these:

For spinning reels I really have liked the Daiwa Fuego line of stuff, nice drag numbers for the size and weight. I've found this line to be a good mix of price and quality. This is a solid to good price for these guys. Can definitely recommend.
