Great catch! It is good to see them making a come back.

Were they caught in the sound or in the Vancouver bay area?

Hi all,

Has anyone started trying for pinks or coho off of ambleside/ pink apartments?
Read some boating reports that said the coho were starting to get caught around pt Atkinson.

Thinking of trying to get out either this weekend or next.

Will post when I have definitive dates and time that I will be heading out.

Hope to see you on the water!

Got 1 pink July 5th in Ambleside, went to Furry Creek on Saturday - nothing but small rockfish.

@ Yak Fisher, thanks for the report. I will be out of town this weekend, but will try make it out on either the following Saturday or  Sunday.

Where do you launch from at furry creek? The closest launch I could find was porteau cove.

Hello all! I am and Oregonian planning a road trip up to Vancouver island the last week of August! I am familiar with fishing the ocean off my kayak for salmon and rock fish and would like to try my hand at Sockeye fishing. I am looking for any advice on what fishing license I will need, where I should focus my fishing effort, and if anyone wants to meet up and fish. My plan is to ferry over to Victoria from Port Angeles and tourist around a bit. Ive got no set places to be so where ever the fishing and or diving takes me is where I want to go. Any websites I should visit or advice on places to park my truck and sleep would also be appreciated!

Wes

Hi Chumchum,

I dont know if anyone in this thread would be much help as it is for Vancouver city and not Vancouver island.

If you re-post this in the in the British Columbia kayak fishing forum you will likely get some help. There are quite a number of active kayak anglers on the island.

Here is a link to buying the necessary fishing license and salmon stamp
https://recfish-pechesportive.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/nrls-sndpp/index-eng.cfm

The  regulations change all the time and it can be tough to figure out exactly what the current regulations are for a specific area. I would recommend popping by the local tackle store to get the latest regulations.

good luck!

Hi Guys

I live in Langley and looking to fish the head of the Cap to toss some spoons/buzz bombs for fresh Coho and Pinks. Where do you guys launch your kayaks? I've previously fished from the beach.

Hey BeeVe, last couple years I've just parked in the public parking right in front of the beach and carried my kayak down. Haven't been yet this year though.

I usually park very close to Hollyburn Sailing Club, launch a kayak on the east side of the club from the beach and on the way back I use west side ramp. That ramp used to be  public boat launch in the past.
The good thing about that ramp - it is easier to bring a kayak up with the wheels and there is a hose at the top to wash out salt before walking back to parking lot and loading back on the car.
