Anybody got tickets yet?  There are still some, at $75 a pop.  And the campground is full for the weekend, dammit.
I decided to go this year for the first time, but waited too long to make camping reservation.  A number of the fish
shown on Youtube from last year's Derby looked pretty dark. What has been your experience there???  Did you limit?
Were any of the fish bright??

I fished there a number of times in the early days of this derby.  Heck, I organized it one year.  You're more than likely to catch 10 dark fish to 1 bright one over labor day weekend.  Maybe on a better year you might have 5:1.  A lot are snagged because most are tossing jigs.  Some troll spoons though and get better bites.

These fish are schooling at the river mouth and push into the river with the high tide and back out into the bay during low.  They're just waiting for a good rain event to push up higher into the river.

Thanks Alan! Do you think going up there 2 or 3 weeks sooner would result in more bright fish? It looks like most of the fish caught are in the 12-15 lb range, was that your experience?

I've seen reports from a couple weeks earlier with more bright ones, but less overall action.  But I have no direct experience.  Call the resort and ask them!  I think most are bigger than 12-15, up to 25-ish.  I don't recall seeing a 30+.
