Howdy,

The North Oregon Coast chapter and the Portland chapter are having a joint event on 7/20 on the Nehalem River fishing for sea-run cutthroat trout. Volunteers should arrive at 7:30am.

It's the same place we have the fall chinook campout. If you need the address I'll PM it to you.

The event was sold out, but we had a few cancelations. We currently have 4 kayaks available if you have any veteran or first responder friends that would like to attend. They can reserve a kayak by getting a free ticket at the link below.

Thanks

Is this a camp-out permitted kind of gig?

What's the technique for targeting sea-run cutthroats?  Casting spinners?  Dead drifting flies or bait??  I used to do a ton of trout fishing, but that was inland waters for rainbows, brookies, browns, dollys... I don't know nuttin about SRC.  This will definitely be an excellent event for HOW.   I don't know if I can attend yet, might not know until a couple days before, but I'm hoping to volunteer.

I've caught them on spinners in the Wilson so that's what I plan on setting the participants up with.  Some Blue Foxes is various colors.

I can't imagine that they would turn their nose up at some lively sand shrimp, but yeah, #4 blue foxes always get play.

If tossing flies, a good 6-7 weight works well. Back it with  20 or 30 lb. gel spun backing.  Semi sink tip helps. I've had  good luck with the Miyawaki Beach Popper in  snaggy water less than 30 feet deep.

Forgot to add, depending on where you are sometimes coho show up with them.

Hopefully we'll see you at the next one. It will be August 17th at Promontory Park in Estacada.

Anyone else want to volunteer? I have to start shopping for food.

Sorry, I missed the original post while on vacation.  However, I think I just got confirmation that I'm available to help on Saturday.  Please count me in.
