Chum Shmum.  Find those silvers and work them.  Eats much better, smokes much better.  What are your plans for the week prior?  Where are you staying?  Where are you going?

I am staying where ever I can park a tent...   ;D

Including a partially built cabin site on Gravina.....    ;)

Going to bum it with yak, tent and rods.

I should have access to a smoker the week prior too...  Possibly a Hobie Outback to fish from too, so I can have pictures of me in a Hobie in Alasak with fish...

So, a week to get the freezer filled before heading out to Foggy...

I'm sure we'll be able to hook up while you're here.  I'll have some waypoints mapped by the time you make it up here, and with the hobies on the pedals, we can keep up with each other nicely. Oh, and btw, I brought a few fly rods with me on the drive up.  You're more than welcome to take them out to foggy.

I have a few fish to post to the AOTY already, but I keep leaving the camera at the marina  :'(  I'm probably off work tomorrow, but regardless of working or not I'm headed out for the greylight fishin' (2 am) to see if I can get into some serious fishies.   >:D

After looking at all the recipes for Ikura, a thought crossed my mind...  Replace the Saki with Dark Rum?

May experiment while up there...  Worst cae, I have to discard a skein of roe...

I think Dark Rum will be too "flavorful".  Speaking of too flavorful, use a lighter soy sauce when making the ikura no shoyu zuke.  Standard Kikkoman style soy sauce is too strong.  If that's all you got, water it down.  Same comment about the sake.  Don't use a strong, dry type.

Too strong and you lose the fish egg goodness.

[WR], Say what?

Oh [WR], thank goodness for online translators ... they still don't translate into something entirely comprehensible.   ???

I think you're asking if I'm going for both trips and perhaps you said you might be able to make the second.

As of right now, I'm planning on making the second trip only.  I'm not sure if this is common knowledge, but here's the deal ... I have a baby due in July, and the second trips is only 5 weeks after he's due.  I'm burning all available GAF to be able to go on one of the trips (doing both is pretty much impossible), but it will be oh so worth it.

Beides......

Congrats, Daddio!   :occasion14:   Is 5 weeks enough time for post-partum depression to slacken?  Do you have a nanny/grandma/gaggle-of-mommies lined up to help out?  You gonna convince Troy to send you home with enough rum to help you with the 10 weeks of diapers you'll owe once you return?  Rented a satellite phone yet (if it even works up here)?

The inlaws live close so we got that covered.  I'm just hoping Troy will save me a sip.  I'll at least get to see him on the "transition day".

Satellite phone ... yeah, they work up there.  Would you believe that we actually had a little phone reception at Foggy Bay last year.   Colby's iPhone was actually ringing when we first landed.  He was so caught off guard that he asked, "does anyone hear that ringing?".  Followed by "Hey, that's my phone!!!".

ummm, wow, that wasn't common knowledge, Allen... good news for you for once.

yeh guys, my german is atrocious, i know, but thats what i was asking. i had thot Allen had posted he would be there the entire time, but i may have misunderstood. since the 1st week is full, it'd have to be the 2nd.

was trying to pull Troys leg about whether he was going for the fishign or the drinking. or both.. but he makes a good point... fish your ass off during the day and unwind at the end of each with good slowly savored drinks.

i really am trying to gather it all together to make that trip. for me it'd be a once in a life time thing.. and it's far far cheaper than the fly fishing only trip i'd done to Belize just before i expatriated from san antone to pacnw for the current employment.

whens the closing date for decisions, again?

Oh, and, Troy;

Right now i'm only a 45 min drive from the Yeungling Brewery and Museum. It's about halfway between where i currently am working and where Fishin T currently is. Great little town, we played football against them when i was in high school up there, but the Jim Thorpe/ Pottsville Maroons  Legacy is hard to overcome , That school had always been a power house and we'd get our butts seriously whhoooopeded.

Anyways, all that to tell you that yeah, Yeungling is still a good beer, but try something better. look up a 6 pack of Sam Adams Black Lager. I think you'll be very happy with it.
