Took time off. Summer is short, kids are back in school.

Going to hit the derby again.

Anyone interested?

It's exactly that predictable (cuz that's how I'd react) reaction that makes you a good fishing partner.  Keep a day open when ya get back.  I know you are going to be busy packing!

Ok.  SO here's the report.  It was SLOW.  It's odd.  Silvers should be getting better and better but its the reverse close to Seward.

So I launch at 8am.  Nothing for what seemed like an eternity.  Miss the first three hookups.  I don't get it.  Finally land a salmon...a pink. Argh.

I get bored so I go out to 300 feet and drop my gear down.  After a few cod, I have a fish on that feels different.  Definitely not a cod.  Almost to the top, the fish gets off.  I examine my gear and the bottom hook had broken off.  Dogfish?  About five minutes later I see an orange buoy floating towards me.  I head to it and it's a yelloweye rockfish...with my hook in it.  Lucky.

For salmon the tally was 3 fish (2 silvers and a pink) on 8 solid hook ups.  I have to do something about not getting good hook ups.  I think it's the braided line and the drag on the avet being too tight.  We will see.

The other news is I saw another Hobie in Alaska!  It was an Oasis.

I also ran into dudemandude.  His buddy hooked a 8 to 10 pound halibut while I was there.  That was cool.

Another 11 hours on the water!  I can't believe I can walk...well barely walk.

Rudy,  I think I see your problem.  It's very hard to hook those headless salmon.  I'm amazed you can even do it!   ;D

What? Huh?  The salmon you guys catch have a Mouth?  Well heck, that makes it almost too easy doesn't it?!?! None of the fine specimens on display at Safeway had the heads...oops...lol

I am much more about Function than form.  So I only worry about documenting the catch.   I saw dudemandude who posts here on the water  His buddy hangs a salmon head over the side and up comes a 10 pound halibut.  So of course I had to try it.  One major slam on the bait, but didn't hook it.  Unfortunately in this case, size does matter and I didn't have appropriate halibut hooks.
