I just purchased a Brocraft Powerlock rod holder and wonder where to mount it. I'd like it front of me but feel that of the 2 likely places, one is out of reach and the other would place the rod too close for paddling.
Maybe I need to point it forward instead of over the side ?

What kind of kayak do you have?

Brocraft. I would have guessed that was a wakeboard boat manufacturer.

I'm saving up for a Chadnautique, but Brocrafts are pretty sick.
On a serious note, you might think about returning that rod holder and getting a Scotty. The flush mount bases leave your deck nice and clean for transport and lower your center of gravity when a big fish tugs. Additionally, there are so many accessories available for Scotty and RAM it's hard to say no to them.

+1
You can not go wrong with a Scotty. The slip discs make them phenomenal (https://nextadventure.net/scotty-no-415-slip-discs.html). The Scotty Orca is best you can get for salmon trolling, or anything really. I have many rod holders, but the Orca is all I ever use. It is so easy to just yank the rod out when a fish is on.
