As I sold my Outback the other day I opened up my hatch and found my bilge pump in there. I swore that I had it in my Adventure the whole time. I really love having it in the hull when I'm on the sound or big blue as it gives me a little more sense of security if my yak were to take on water. Only been a few instances from friends where they actually had to use it but man, they were lucky they did have one. And for about $8 you can't really complain..

So how many of you out there do have a bilge pump onboard?

Me, though if I take on a bunch of water in my wherry, a 5 gallon bucket (also on board) will be a heck of a lot faster.

I usually have a bilge sponge on board. A pump would be good in case i ever huli'd with my middle hatch open, which i have a bad habit of doing, and swamped it.
See ya on the water..

Yep, I've learned (the easy way for once) that having a bilge pump on a SOT is a good idea. I'm going to take Allen's idea soon & rig it to the inside of my hatch cover so it's always where I need it.

Thanks for asking Z! ironically, I just received one from NRS today. Also got one of their boat sponges. Now I am all set for any "water on board" problems. I also have a VHF on the way, one of the Cobra HH300's that Wally mentioned.

I to plan to mount one on the underside of my large hatch.  I am also rigging a strap that will keep said hatch from escaping over the side when removed (fish n dive hatches are heavy and sink)

Would a sot kayak really sink if it was totally swamped? I have never tried this. I'm sure it would! They make those air bags you put in your yak to make it buoyant. Or a piece of foam would work.

Ahhh, yes

and yes

and yes again!

(in that order) ;D

For airbags, I like beach balls and partially inflated air mattresses and the above linked sunken boat is currently filled with foam pool noodles (yakfisherman's duct tape).
Oh, and pumps? Pumps are good!

No pic,  just the story.
But here's a pic of the boat before I started poking holes in it.
