Title: Woahink report 3/19
Post by: goldendog on March 19, 2009, 04:00:36 PM
I took the dogs to the park at Woahink lake this morning for their daily run. The lake was like glass! After returning home, I decided to head back to the lake for a little perch fishing. By the time I arrived, about 11am, the wind from the south had come up, and it was beginning to rain. I had already packed a lunch, and everything else, so I decided to give it a try anyway, hoping the wind and rain would stop. I paddled against small wind waves for a mile until I reached the perch hole. It was way to rough to anchor in the deep water, so I went to the leeward side of the point, and anchored in 65 feet of water. I dropped my worm, and ate my lunch while it continued to rain. I managed to get a few little bites during the first hour, but couldn't get any to stay on. Eventually the rain stopped, and the wind died down, so I paddled out to the spot that I usually fish. Still, after another hour, just a few bites, and no hookups. Since the wind was still from the south, I decided to let it drift me back to the park, while I trolled the worm. After a half hour, and no bites, I approached the park. The water depth started to go from 60ft, to 50ft, up to 10ft. I figured the heck with it, and started reeling in my line. Wham, I thought I snagged the bottom, but it was a fish. A nice fish. I started seeing more AOTY points in my future, as it could only be a big trout, or even better, a bass. After a nice fight, I saw a flash of silver. And, indeed it was a Silver. In fact, I had hooked a Coho about 20 inches long. Very bright chrome! He was barely hooked in the lip, and while I tried to get my camera out of the vest pocket, he made a final series of flops next to the yak and released himself. I would have released him anyway, but having a photo of my second biggest fish this year would have been nice!
