Hi Gents,

I contacted the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce because I still didn't see the derby listed on the website. This afternoon, I received an email from the Chamber this afternoon:

"Yes, we are having the tournament on May 19th this year. Please help us pass the word. Good Luck Fishing!"

So, there we have it. Early rumors of the 12th were incorrect.   I sure hope the date works for everyone, and fits the rotation properly for those of you working on the Slope.

This is the current list???

Keep in mind the entry is 20 bucks but to really win any money in the derby be ready to shell out another $200 to $500.  I think it's something like half the pot is won by whoever "buys" the boat the previous night at the auction.  Catching the biggest fish gets you only 25% (winner takes all I think). I think with the charity getting 25%.

I think I paid $125 just to buy MY kayak.  Paid the same for my partners!  They are a great group of folks and welcomed our participation instead of snickering at the "crazy's fishing from tupperware."  They will bid you up so be prepared!

I think that's right, Rudy. I'm as definite as my responsibilities allow.  In making sure I'm properly equipped, I spent some time (and $) at B&J this afternoon.  At the moment, they've got a good inventory of 5-10 oz banana weights, so I grabbed a variety of those.

This is gonna be fun!!  Hope to look like the noob that I am, so I can buy my boat for a song.

Nice. Akfishergal if you dont have flashers yet, I recommend the fish flash style. Less drag with sinkers. They have worked well for me with sinkers. Color is your choice. 8 to 10 oz sinker will take a full sized 11inch flasher down.

Matt, glad to hear you are in!

Also the fish in mid may will be targeting hooligan so keep that in mind when selecting bait size. The green pack seems most popular. I'm going to run smaller baits but will also carry the larger sizes for possible halibut.

I will also show people that show up how I rig my herring whole. Another one of the pieces of info I promised not to post online...

I'd consider picking up a few helmets though. Im a believer that whole herring looks more natural than a cut plug...guess that makes sense.  Lol.

I'm going to run double 4/0 gamakatsu octopus on the smaller baits and 6/0 top hook for the bigger baits. 50 or 30 pound flourocarbon leaders. Probably 50 to deal with the halibut. Braid on the sinker/planer rig. 30 mono on my downrigger rod.

Count me in.   If any of you want to pre fish the weekend before I'm game for that as well.  Good halibut tides the weekend prior.

This is gonna be awesome!   The Alaskan Tupperware Navy

Sweet kenai guy. Not sure I can prefish the weekend before but it might be possible.

Will not be able to make the April 14th gathering as I just entered my kids into a karate tournament. But my intent is to be on the water at least a day every weekend other than next weekend!!!
