Tis the time for comments and encouragement,  to have a lovely new ramp, for kayaks and powerboats, to be constructed on the Alsea at Lindey Park.

If you would support this, or have questions,  suggestions, or any other form of comment on the matter, please submit it here!

Thanks for reading and contributing,  tight lines!

done.

that looks like a great location, just a few miles up from Waldport, it would take pressure off the big boat launch down in Waldport.  looks like a great location for smaller boats and kayaks to launch.  cheers!

There was a public meeting in Waldport last week for this boat ramp. A friend of mine attended, and he said he felt like he was the only one there in support of a boat ramp. Everyone else at the meeting was vehemently against it, mostly for personal reasons (local Waldport anglers want to keep that upper tidewater fishery to themselves). However, Oregon Wild was there in opposition of the boat ramp as well. OW claimed the boat ramp site is a popular haul-out location for harbor seals...my personal observations don't support that, but I'm not there all the time.

I've launched from the bank at Don Lindley a few times. It's not easy, but it's one of the very few public access sites in that stretch of tidewater.

Regardless of the decision, that's great info, my hesitation to fish fall salmon in the Alsea has mainly been wanting to avoid the chaos of the main Waldport launch and the concentration of boats down there.

I'll take a recon trip to that park in May when the Waldport Wednesday market starts.

It would be nice to have this available. I've been there scoping it in the past. I think there was objection to cutting down the old spruce trees. To me that seemed unnecessary. I used to go to Kozy Cove before they closed it. That was quite far upstream and less of a paddle to get to the head of tide. Very fishy area in the fall indeed.

Note:This is a related post is about the boat launch at the Port of Alsea; not the proposed one at Lindey park

For those that are unaware, the port of Alsea just overhauled the public boat launch and docs in November of 2021. The new launch is VERY nice, but this upgrade also included the addition one of the new ADA accessible kayak launch docs.

An emergency public hearing was held on February 16, 2023, at the Port of Alsea office which repealed all previous ordinances regarding the port including the launch and adopted a new one.

Please note the new final ordinance 51 (Section 5B) restricts the use of the new boat launch to "motorized vessels only". I was concerned when I first read this, because I was worried if I would be able to wheelie my loaded Hobie down the new kayak dock. I can speak first hand, it is very doable. I did however, send an email to the port manager (Roxie Cuellar) inquiring if there is the possibility of getting an exemption) for larger non-motorized craft such as sailboats and hybrids with outriggers/pontoons such as Hobies etc. These are not simply vessels that are slung over the shoulder to carry or even fit down the kayak dock. I did get a reply they are looking into it but have not received an answer yet.
