My garage is getting more cluttered as I collect more stuff. The items taking the most room are the 3 kayaks, as they are large and not easy to move. I have some mobile racks to store junk on, and I found that it's nice to be able to jam those racks over in a corner and pull them out as I need something from them. I figured if I could store my kayaks on a mobile rack, I could push it over to the side and make space if I need.

I purchased some Unistrut (SuperStrut / Kindorf) and fittings awhile ago with the idea of bolting together a rack and putting it on casters. I finally got around to putting it together last weekend. I still have to do some wrapping of the bars with padding, but it is essentially finished, and I am very happy with it. I have on it 2 Revos, 1 Oasis, 3 drives, 2 paddles, 2 flags, and 2 scupper carts - all in a space 2'10" wide x 14'6" long x 6'2" tall, and moveable.

Well done!
I'd do the same, if I had a garage.....
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Im needing to build a new rack since mine is janky at best....with the cost of lumber these days I have been putting it off...may need to go the unistrut route! Looks very good.

How do you feel about long term storage with the hobies on their sides like that? I store my sit-insides on their edges but not sure if the Hobie will like being sideways.

That's a great idea - thanks for posting that. Like Shin said, especially with the price of lumber being what it is. Also, having built a rolling kayak rack out of lumber myself, I can tell you I would definitely consider other materials the next time.

Unistrut and the fittings are expensive, too! However, it goes together quickly, can be adjusted, and can be taken apart and reassembled.

I am not worried about the kayaks being stored on their sides since they have been for years already. Hobie recommends upside down as a first option, but says on their side is the second. They say not to store them on their bottom right side up. I try to change sides after taking them out, and rotate them once in awhile if they have been sitting.
