Ok I'm itchin for some metal stitchin so I'm going to start a build on a kayak rack that should  fit most 4X6 utility trailers and hold 4 kayaks with the top tree removable (for two yak transport only) hoping to get it going and done next week. I know most of you are unsure about my welding skills or engineering/design so stay tuned.
If someone wants a rack and is ready to go speak up now. I have the steel already. If not I'll build it in a basic design rattling around in my frontal lobe and make it universal in case  someone falls in love with it after it's done, then I can let it go and play some more >:D

Got my shiza together this morning and put in a half hour of cutting steel and my cheap 12 year old "harbor freight" chop saw I think I spent $60 on started smoking like a chimney bad enough we unplugged it and literally threw it out the shop door  :sad2:  so had to get a new one at $160 local (I'm a dead man btw TLW is going to kill me) spent some time cutting and welding got half a short rack tacked on for someone to look at tomorrow. Here's a couple shots.

Modified the height so a guy can get access to gear under the boat but might modify it so that a kayak can fit the bottom bars as well and with an empty deck the big tuna can go under it.

I love the simplicity of it. I see a potential for rod holder tubes if the upper knee braces were a bit larger, you could fit a PVC tube front to back to store them while travelling. Nice job Bro!

Looks good! Any thought to putting a 4-6" bar at the end of the cross bars to stop a kayak from sliding? This would also allow you to stack 2-3 carefully on each side.

I have some more 1.5 inch plate to go on the ends for slide prevention, im still toying with the idea of putting a shoulder on the base box so a kayak can sit directly on the bottom if a guy didn't want to access the bottom of the trailer without going under a kayak. The mechanic needed the shop floor Monday so I had to wrap it up and shoot it for rust protection, my welder, bench grinder, and new chop saw plus the rest of my materials are still at the shop  ;)

If anyone wants this one or one customized similar (can be welded directly to a good rust free frame) but bolt or pin on. PM me your contact info or if you have mine let me know.

Loaded for HOW, im thinking a set of removable arms on the lower bars that extend them out another 6 inches or so would allow 5 boats if gears not on the deck.
