I've never been down to Coos bay. I'm going to take a week off work, and stay down there the week of the tourney to camp, and fish. To those who have stayed down there for the tournament in the past, where is the best campground to stay at for easy access to the water?

A lot of people stay at Sunset Bay state park and Bastendroff Beach Park.

The only thing I can find other than people talking about it is the Facebook page. I messaged on the Facebook page, and got a response saying that I could pay through a pay pal acc, or just pay when I'm down there before the tourney sometime.

There is Oceanside rv/campground also, at the south end of Bastendorff. You can camp for free on bastendorff beach also, if the transients dont bother you.

Why Bastendroff, over the state park? It looks like you can walk to the water from the state park. Am I missing something?

One consideration is what type of camping you are doing. Sunset Bay has a limited number of sites that can handle large Rvs. It is largely a tent camping area. I haven't camped at Bastendorff, but driving through, I got the impression that it was better suited for larger RVs.

I have to say that the coldest summer nights (outside of overnight on Mt Adams) I have ever spent were at Sunset Bay.

We chose Bastendorff this year because we have friends staying there and wanted to be within walking distance of them between our camps.

The state campground is a bit nicer and a lot of their spots are better suited for tent camping. Either place books up pretty quick though, I was looking at 3 different available spots yesterday morning and by the time I got home from work they were already booked. Both do have fish cleaning stations along with decent showers though.

State campground is within walking distance of the water, but I don't think I would wheel my kayak all that way.
