Hi all,

Moving to the Pacific Northwest to enjoy this phase of my life.  I have fished off my kayak in Southern California for 10 years almost every weekend.  Weather permitting (surf permitting)  I am looking forward to fishing the Seattle and Puget Sound area.   I normally fish saltwater, but I could get used to not having to clean saltwater off my gear every trip.  I am just starting to look for my home and I am not sure where I will end up.  I will be splitting my time in Southern California until end of January at the most.

I have a lot to learn about the fishery and I am looking forward to any invites.  I'm in!

See you on the water
Thank you all for any kindness provided in the the Pacific Northwest.

Welcome to the NWKA forum.  You obviously have lots of experience fishing the salt.  Plenty of folks to hook up with on the forum.  My goal is to spend time in the Pacific North West when I retire.

Welcome to the forum and to the PNW! At least from my own experience kayak fishing around La Jolla and mainly now in Puget Sound you will probably find out that your are not going to miss much launching on the surf (not that is not fun, just not missing the occasional dump from a miss-timed wave...) but you are going to miss fishing for yellowtail, white seabass, etc. On the plus side, there are opportunities in fresh and saltwater, for trout, sturgeon, salmon, crabs and many more. One of my kayaks (Tarpoon 160) is a San Diego transplant, another one is a Prowler 15 that still lives in San Diego and I don't get to use that much (no travel given COVID!). Enjoy your two-timing CA-WA while it lasts!
Keep us posted about where you move and hope to see you in the water sometime.

Thanks for the responses.  I am in the area looking for a home and have seen some very interesting launch spots.  I can't wait to catch some crabs, Salmon and Lings.  The black rockfish options remind me of Reds down in So Cal.   I'm not much of a lake fisherman other than to kill time but I will be looking for dinner in the lakes that have good water flow.

I'll keep my connections down below and try to get down there as often as I can.  Lobster are pretty good.  I'm heading back down tomorrow and will probably delay move until February now due to Covid-19.  I'll try to get some January yellowtail before coming back.

See you on the water.

By the way this is some fickle weather.  I have been everywhere in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties the last 5 days.  It is amazing how the weather changes from county to county, east to west.  Sun, rain and wind.  Very interesting.  I have found a few posts on the forum for forecast research options.

My thermals game is ready!  Macy's is having a great sale.

I grew up in New York State.  I'll be fine.  :banjo: :banjo: :banjo:

Still waiting for my phase in the development to be completed.    current closing date is 12/15/21.  Probably can't really get out til January.  What type of fishing should I prepare for?  Lakes and trout?  In Washington to be exact. I think rockfish season is closed in January.  Please Let me know your thoughts.   thanks again.

Welcome!

January kayak fishing opportunities are typically pretty slim around here.  Cutthroat in Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish or sometimes some black mouth (resident Chinook) in PS if they don't close the season.  I haven't done the black mouth thing, but maybe someone with experience can share some input.

Best of luck with closing!

Thanks.  The wife wants some trout for sure. What is PS?

I'm guessing PS=Puget Sound?

Damn Californians all keep coming up to get in on our good fishing!

Just givin ya a hard time, I moved to Oregon from San Diego about two years ago.
All I ever did down there was fish largemouth, kicking myself now for never going out for yellowtail, white sea bass, threshers...

Anywho, if you're anything like me, you'll love the PNW. I had to learn a bunch of new knots and techniques, buy a bunch of new gear, but I couldn't be happier to be here. Wish I had moved to Oregon a lot earlier in my life.

This website has been an incredibly great resource for me, tons of good info, really cool people, plentiful invites....you'll be catching fish in no time!
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?
