Hey Polepole;

I was wondering if the plans for the '07 NWKA fishing derby have been finalized yet?  Where will it be?  When?  I just want to know so I can schedule the time off from work and it always helps if I can give my family a little heads up.  If you're looking for a venue, I would request Tilamook Bay.  I've heard the fishing is good out there and it's relatively close to my home. ;D  But I'm open.  Anywhere there is a sea monster willing to get on my boat, I'm in.

Happy Holidays

Here's a couple of places I'd consider-

Quote
Oswald West State Park, a few miles south of Cannon Beach, is sweet. Walk-in campsites in oldgrowth in a little valley, leading down to a protected cove that is a favorite of NW surfers. Packed out on weekends, but otherwise worth a stop. Manzanita, the next town south, is a little quieter than some of the touristy towns. Nehalem Bay State Park is a long walk, or short biike ride, beyond. The king run returning to the Nehalem R. should be starting to heat up.

Pacific City, at the south end of the Three Capes Drive (S. of Tillamook) is a good potential launch site. Commercial (and a charter boat) dory fisherman launch off the beach on the south side of Cape Kiwanda. Also, a nice brewpub, the Pelican Brewpub, is right on the beach.

The Oregon State parks are great, and it seems there's one (at least a day park) every few miles. If it looks like it's going to be wet, the yurts sure are nice.  http://www.oregonstateparks.org/searchpark.php?region=north_coast

I'd also consider Cannon Beach, if only for the success I've had on a cattle boat, a mile offshore.

Wow!  Nice to see some Oregon guys checking in and asking about derbies.  Boxofrain is interested in one on the south coast and now Will is interested in one on the North Coast.

No plans yet for the 07 derby although we had at one point talked about an Eastern WA fresh water derby.  Although that does help you Oregon guys out much, does it?   ::)

Here's what I would suggest, and what I've been talking with boxofrain about.  See if you can figure out a time and a place and get some interest in a "gathering".  Most of our trips are just gatherings anyway.  If the gathering looks like it will have good attendance, then I'll figure out how to turn it into a derby.  Heck, that's sort of how our 06 derby got off the ground.
