Is anyone going to be fishing the Valdez area this summer?

I have it on my wish list closer to Labor Day but I'll get crucified by my friends if I start talking about fishing trips that are at the beginning of a new winter when this ones not done yet!

Couple years ago I managed fairly easy limits over the Labor Day weekend for cohos at 6 per day. Super kayak friendly and late in the season when the cohos are close, it's a huge advantage over both shore fisherman and larger power boats that can't get into the shallower water.

Pretty big area, JMK -- have any specific waters in mind?  Silvers @ Valdez are the first high-percentage target that come to mind, but that's late in the season. My husband always heads that way for the dip netting at Chitina in June. I just haven't fished that area -- once I'm out toward Glenallen, I've always turned north to float the Gulkana for the rainbows or chase grayling at Tangle Lakes. Very open to suggestions, of course.

Thank you both.  I guess I am more interested in the salt but I am always willing to fish...  I live near Fairbanks so that is the closest salt water to me.  Id love to get down to the Kenai but time will tell.

Thanks again.

Id sure like to go to Valdez. Pretty much just replicate the trip Kardinal did. I say Im going every year though. While fun to catch Im not a big fan of Silver Salmon as table fare. Plus the best fishing time there conflicts with Moose hunting. So I never do make it. But its in the back of my mind

I'll be heading down there starting the weekend of June 1st, 2013.  Hopefully summer will be here by then. ;)  It will be more of a exploratory trip to check out the area and see what's biting.  I'm hoping to do at least 3-6 trips this season to try to find some holes that may harbor a 'butt or two and some rockfish for tacos.

Cheers,
