Hey guys i have been getting a lot of messages lately about catching lakers from a kayak. Here is a podcast I did on it a few weeks ago. Any feedback is always welcome. I hope it helps a few of you guys get on some good fish. There are a few methods that I also use that we didnt go over in the episode but primarily this is what I have been doing. Cheers

Good podcast! A couple suggestions: describe your jigging technique in more detail, and post pictures of some of your favorite jigs.
In lakes where there aren't a lot of lake trout, downrigger trolling is a great way to locate lake trout, because you can cover a lot of territory when trolling. When I'm kayak fishing for lake trout, I spend most of my time downrigger trolling, and catch most of my lake trout while downrigger trolling. But when I find a concentration of lake trout, I'll switch to jigging.

Are they always that small, or do they get bigger? >:D I don't know you Pete, and you don't know me. Was just to good to pass up. All joking aside, those are some gorgeous fish. You always post such awesome pics.

I enjoyed the podcast and the commentary from you and your friend. I will need to check out some of your other podcasts. Looks like you have a couple up there.
Thanks for sharing the info and look forward to future podcasts.

Another suggestion for your podcast - discuss how you hold yourself stationary over the bottom while jigging for lake trout, lake whitefish, lings, or other bottom dwelling fish from a kayak.
I have difficulty holding myself stationary over the bottom when jigging from a paddle kayak, because I only have two arms. One of my motivations for buying a pedal kayak many years ago was that I can point the bow of my kayak into the wind and pedal lightly to hold myself relatively stationary over the bottom. I keep an eye on my fishing line and try to keep it vertical in the water. If it starts angling off in some direction, I know that I'm moving. I also zoom into the GPS screen of my fish finder as close as I can, and use that to guide my efforts to stay stationary over the bottom.
It can be difficult to tell what direction the wind is coming from. Adding a wind direction indicator to your kayak will help you stay stationary over the bottom. All you need is a streamer on a mast. I posted a description of a simple wind direction indicator I made at http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=18212.msg195603#msg195603 .
