Warm water Rockfish

(1/1)

After years of throwing back shorts(<20"), I was stoked to finally catch a keeper Red Grouper.

Dania Beach, Florida about a mile and a half offshore in 100ft of water.

Looks like the water gets super deep real quick off of S Fl -- is it not too uncommon to run into wahoo or tuna within 3 miles of the beach?

SD2OR:
Jealous!

Drifter2007:
Very cool!

The deep drop-off is from Miami to West Palm Beach in SE Florida.  Bluewater pelagic species are less than 2 miles off the beach.  South of Miami in the Keys it's 5-6 miles to blue water.  North of WPB it's 9 to 90 miles.   The West Coast of Florida is all shallow water (<100ft) fishing for kayak anglers.  Sailfish and Tuna are seasonally common catches for kayakers.  Wahoos are around, but mostly taken by boats trolling faster than kayaks.  They are well publicized, but not too common for kayak anglers.
