Hello world from Bainbridge

(1/1)

Mothy Riggs:
Moving to BI in 3 weeks and STOKED to learn how you all do this!

Long time fly fisherman and kayaker but never tried to mix the two...and almost never salt water fished in my 25 years in the PNW. Strictly rivers till now.

I'm in research mode (thank you for stored wisdom so far) on what, where, and how. Then I'll start looking for what will be primarily a recreational pedal drive around Eagle Harbor...but occasional fishing platform in the bigger water and off other beaches.

Thinking Hobie Revo 13 but I'm open to suggestion and your guidance. Gotta keep up with my wife in her sea kayak on jaunts to town. And then turn around and go hunt salmon, src, and bottom fish.

For now, I'll keep reading, trying, and combing the used for sale list.

Thanks!

Nobaddays:
Welcome to NWKA.  There are many of us that do a lot of fly fishing from the kayak.  You are going to have a blast.  One thing I learned was it is almost harder for me to stand on the kayak to fly fish.  At least with a pedal drive, the fly line would get caught up in the pedals etc.  Fly fishing from a seated position, keeps the line coiled right in from of the seat.  Things may be different for you, but something to keep in mind while looking at different kayaks.

As far as picking a kayak, I would suggest going to one of the demo days that many of the kayak shops offer.  The Hobie Revo is a great kayak and would be faster than the Outback.  I have had both, but use an Outback because has much more storage options.  Both are very stable, but have a very different feel when on the water.  Happy hunting and hope you find just the right kayak.

Mothy Riggs:
Wow, great point on the fly line + pedals makes it difficult. Much appreciated nobaddays. Maybe if I hit up some demo days, I'll see what works for me.

Thanks!
