While sorting through my tackle box (after making my own deep water release using a 3/32" welding rod) I came across a package that was one of these 'store bought' releases I had forgot I purchased several years ago. Yes you can easily make your own but some anglers may opt for this solution instead. Easy to just clip onto your fishing rod and lower to the bottom for release.

This particular style of release is now distributed and available in 12 stores around Alaska. Many locations on the Kenai Peninsula as well as PWS and Southeast. Hmm, Drifter2007 that might be a source for an AOTY donation if you contact the guy.

There are also 4 stores listed in WA state and 3 stores in Oregon if you WC anglers are interested too.

Here is the Page that lists all the tackle shops in Alaska, WA, OR, that carry this easy to use release. I think it was $15 or less that I paid. And he does sell online too.
