Finally had a weekday where all the work was done and decided to head out to Picnic Point for some blackmouth trolling on the Outback. Checked the weather and they said rain/snow etc. but it was calm so decided to go for a short 5-6 mile troll. Beautiful calm weather on the launch and got the downrigger set up. 20 min. later a nice takedown but didn't stick. Reset and 10 min. later another takedown, stuck for a second then came off. After that it pretty much shut down. As I reached the end of my first pass I turned around to head back and was greeted by this.

It was waaay in the distance and staying south but that didn't stop the wind. :confused4: It went from a light 2 mph breeze, 5 mph gust. I looked over to Possesion Point and the rabbits and sheep were coming my way :bunny: . I wasn't gonna give in so set the downrigger again and started pedaling back.

Then it just got worse. From 5mph to a steady 10. The waves came in full effect to about 1-2 feet and I took a few waves.

It quickly got silly after that so pulled all the gear up and strapped it all down. Had a bunch of fun blasting through some waves on the way back. The pic below I'm on the top of a wave heading down.

It sure was a long way back and I earned every mile. The mirage drive really comes through big time when the wind comes up and I was able to keep a steady 3 mph pace. Got back to the point where there was pretty steady waves and had a surf landing.

Even though I didn't get to land any fish it was fun riding the waves and getting out on the water. Good times! :icon_tongue:

Zee,  Those lowering clouds were a pretty good clue-- ;D  -- but boys will be boys and we have to take our fun where we find it !  :D

Rob.     P.S. Next time don't forget the fish.

You call that "wind" and "waves"?  Sheesh!   ;)

Yeah that's what I said to myself when I turned around. The clouds weren't there when I paddled out and then BAM! It had built up while I was paddling the opposite direction. An adventure that's all fun when you've got all the right dry/safety gear. ;)

Hey Z- How much drag does that salmon net add in a strong wind?  Do you take it down when conditions deteriorate like that?

Not much. I can feel my Plano box behind my seat move if it does and yesterday it was solid. If the winds did get up to 15-20 mph I think I would take it down though. I also like it because it helps w/ visibility (boaters being able to see me). I need to get some orange tape on that net.
