Hello, I have been reading up and searching a bunch on way people have mounted down riggers to kayaks. So I went and bought a Scotty 1050 and Swivel bracket/mount.

I wanted to keep the center of gravity as low as possible. So I made pvc "rails" that sit along the bottom of the scupper drain lines and into the scupper holes. I used Plexiglass to mount the mount/brackets onto.  It swivels over the Rod holder section with about 1 Inch clearance. To store in the back half of my yak.

I am pretty stoked with my engineering and it does seem fairly stable with the 4lb ball off to the side. But I will have to test it and see how it works in the water.

let me know what some of you guys think :)

Nice work.

I'm interested in your field test results.  Build another one, and then play "Lets see how much effort it takes to break this thing"
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Looks good to me--keep us posted with the field test. It took a few times with the downrigger behind me on my Revolution to get a routine down but it can be done.

Now that is some nice handywork! I love that it's so low. When i use mine it clamps to the top of the milkcrate and causes a bit of listing with the ball down.

Dr. Rockso great idea. Send me a PM and we can hit Lake WA sometime, put that to the test before the salmon season starts.
