Ok been reading a lot about how much distance a person can cover in a yak but my question is this if you wanted to go from Chelan to Steichen and back how long do you think it would take?  Always thought this would be an amazing adventure on a yak since there are so many boat-in camping spots and cool places along the way.  Now I know the lake is 55mi long and on average 1mi wide and based on what I've read I would think this would be at least a 10 day outing... just looking for some opinions on this is all ;D

I go to chelan 2-3 times a year.  During the summer, when I'm guessing is when you'll do this, the winds are very strong during the daytime.  You would need to get most of your travel done in the early mornings and late afternoons.  Obviously there are exceptions, but the wind is pretty much a daily thing.  If I recall correctly, it's usually blowing from the direction of Stehiken.

I once trolled across the the lake from 25 mile creek to the opposite side.  Took me maybe 30-40 minutes to get across, but when I went to return the wind kicked up and there was 2ft chop.  It took me 2 hours to get back.  (the wind was from the south that day).

Also, you wouldn't likely be going from Chelan to Stehiken, as there aren't really any campsites aside from the state parks below 25 mile creek.  Nearly every inch of shoreline has a house on it.  North of 25 mile creek though, there are no roads, only foot trails and the boat-in camping spots.

When my kids get older, I'm going to make that trip too.  I'd allow for 3 days each way.  You could always catch the ferry back down if going up took longer than you prepped for.

You can drive to 25mile state park right... would they let you park there for an extended period of time?  Lol rethinking my route after what you said about all the houses... also that would be a bit shorter from 25 mile to Steheken (about 25 miles shorter :icon_thumright:) who knows when or if Ill be able to do this but heres to hopin right

Not 100% sure, but I know people park boat trailers there and take overnight boat trips.  You could probably find out on the state park website or by calling them.  (yes, you can drive to 25 mile creek state park.  It's actually the end of the road)
