Well, here's my first actual fishing report on the forum: After not finding anything biting on the Columbia Saturday, KayakBernie and I decided to give it a try on the Williamette yesterday.  Put in about 10am, and trolled both up and downstream of Sellwood Bridge.

Water was more colored, 48 degrees, and again no biters to be found. There were a lot fewer boats (not a good sign), and talked to one that said he saw 2 hooked and lost(???) but saw no fish caught and nobody who said they had.

Guess it's still a bit early there or they were just being fickle. No smelt seen in this part of the river. Once again, just being out paddling again in really decent weather was a great time.

Thanks for the report YB. That seems to be the same story they're reporting on ifish as well.

Great report.  Sinker and I made it out a bit lower on the river in the afternoon with the same result.

Guy on ifish found these in the belly of one he picked up yesterday. It would explain why the bite is off. Why chase a spinning herring when there are so many twitching smelt so readily available. I'm hoping the floating smelt disappear before the main run shows up.
