So many regulations, more to come I'm sure. I am a Washington resident, fishing in the Gorge pretty much means you will be launching on the Columbia from the Washington and Oregon side, so I have two state's worth of rules to deal with. If the authorities have time to watch a few guys fishing until they pull an oversize fish out of the water, I have to wonder about enforcement policies.
I understand that both state's agencies are crippled by lack of funds and I believe most officials are fair and do a good job. All my encounters with wildlife officals have been positive, mostly the stops they do are informative; unless you are doing something really bad, they warn you and let you go, at least the first time. There are so many rules, I know it's your responsibility to know them, but between the two state's constantly changing rules, kind of tough for a recreational venture.
I see people poaching all the time, taking native fish and using multiple hand lines when fishing. Also, I've seen some pretty rough handling of large sturgeon as they are being removed from gill nets(although I don't know if any laws apply there). Also, I was informed by an Oregon State Trooper that everyone on a watercraft 12' or longer must have a PFD and whistle, including SUPs. I've already seen dozens of SUPs fitting that description with no PFDs and believe many of those people do not have a clue to the rules. I've seen no enforcement of this rule, all you would have to do is stand at the Hood River or The Dalles launch beach and watch the parade of SUP users. I'm not against SUPs by any means, just using them as an example that the application of the law seems to be widely variable.
I know from living and fishing in California, that now has sweeping sportfishing restrictions, the same is on the way here. With all the pressure on the Columbia River resources, how much longer before it becomes an MLPA? I don't know what the answer here is.

YO, I know it's frustrating enough to be the guys doing the right thing- actually trying to decipher the cryptic pages of Oregon or Washington's regulations.  Further the frustation by insult when you are subjected to watching said idiot(s) violate laws and ethics in front of your face.  We could always get 8ft SUP's and see how that works, I KID I KID!
Just keep on keepin on, and avoid going to fish Hell.

PS- Anyone else get to look at the chick on the left who is totally naked behind the gray swiss cheese, then as if by magic someone digitally enhanced a black bikin on her body?  It's really distracting/awesome.  Must be an add for "leave a little to the imagination"...bunch of crap.

You get way better adds than I do.  Mine was for all my children on Hulu.   :icon_scratch:

Ok, now there is another chick in a black bikini.  This add is a video and wants me to push the button for play.  I don't look at this stuff because my wife is a computer wizard and would pull my cookies or find my "cloud", all computer evil voodoo talk.

Anyway- she's there at the left of my screen. Pretty sweet and blonde, but I...must...not...push....play...
