In front of the rear rod holders or behind?

You could get inventive with something like an PVC downrigger mount using the rear tracks as mount points.

Watch for potential rudder cable contact with the screw ends.  You don't want to fray any of the control cables.  All your rudder cables run the length of the boat right under the gunwales.  I'm thinking about covering mine with some sort of smooth tape.

What are your first thoughts on how to use the 4' of track?

I figure the 12" tracks will be enough for anything I need plus doing things like downrigger or the ama`s  am thinking the back tracks will be behind rod holders. thanks for heads up on screw/bolt ends may end up coating ends if I can reach? with some of that two part epoxy putty... after water tightening the track and then? fullbacks with marine goop on install. with two 12ers up front and two back that ought to do it for anything. also have some scotty 438 gearheads and scotty gearhead extenders coming.

Just picked up a used Revo and at a smokin' deal. Would like to see how your mounts turn out as the next couple of months are Revo rehab and making her look pretty again.

I have since replaced the black SLA with a Blue Brick Li-Ion (saved 4 lbs).

Others who added lacing just used buttons and no pad-eyes.

Been working great.

For some reason I am particularly proud of this design.  Luckily I've never needed it.

I had issues with some hull warp in my Revo.  Initially I stuffed a small tire tube through the rear hatch placing it just a few inches forward of the edge of the hatch, then inflated carefully.  It weighed a few pounds.  Recently I replaced it with a block of closed cell foam as a transverse bulkhead.  The foam weighs just a few ounces.  I placed it just aft of the rod holders.  There is no internal support in the Revo aft of the livewell scuppers and the hull flexes quite a bit.  Another pair of scuppers at the rear of the livewell would have helped.  I may add another foam block aft a few more inches.  The foam adds almost no weight is quite dense and adds considerable support for the stern hull.

i do wonder about side pull...say a rod on extender in front of me to get the rod close and high enough that when am pedaling rod is clear, I have this thing that my rod has got to be in front....that when for starters a salmon or a sturgeon or moby dick hits and the tracks and all, including a big ol chunk of my revo don`t go flying off into the drink. or the stress of say... a downrigger. has anyone had any problems with these tracks? if I can I might make my own backers as the backers they sell are only as wide as the tracks?, will see, am thinking the wider I can fit underneath the better for strength. sure wish hobie had models already decked out with this stuff. feel like getting hobies opinion on these tracks and see what they say? I only want and can do this once these things gotta be tight be permanent.

also wish more revo gizmo technicians would chime in on my intentions with the 4 12"tracks, opinions please. any good/bad/ugly stories on these tracks?? if you have these how long have you had them on your yak? how much use have they been through? am I overkillin it big time?

I have the wider Gear Tracs on my Outback. I don't have the backing plates. I would feel more confident with the tracks if I had some sort of backing plate installed. They are sweet for rod holders, but I don't feel that they are amazingly solid. I don't think a salmon would be able to rip the tracks off your boat...but what an amazing/tragic story if it did happen.

I have the same concern.  My rod holder is on an extension and rises 14" above the gunwale.  This allows my rod butt to be in front of me, but still high enough to clear the mirage drive pedals.  That's a hellava lever arm.  When salmon season starts I'll see what happens.

The inside width of the gunwale channels on the Revo are only about 1.25" wide.  I don't think a 2x4 can be jammed up tight so it is less than 1.5".  Unless one wants to sculpt a backing strip to accommodate the foot braces.

The YakAttack backing plates are more narrow than the GT90, only 0.5" wide.  The GT90s are 0.9" wide.  1.25" diameter fender washers may be the way to go, or a strip of cutting board held with fender washers, but cutting boards are thick, and there is not much vertical clearance for the rudder control cables.  A 1/8" or 3/32" thick, 1.25" wide strip of stainless steel might also work.

demonick your boat looks great! can`t wait to do mine. I spoke with the dealer today and asked him if they saw or have anyone come in with problems with geartracks....cracking or other and was told not once, all should be fine.

The GearTracs have only been out about a year and the GT90 even less, so the statistical sample indicating all is well is limited.
