Welcome! I did a a little fishing from a power boat in Brookings a few weeks ago. It was an amazing trip! I want to go back down there with the kayak and fish around Bird Island.

Ya I mostly have fished out of a boat as well...kayaking so far just around the north Jedi and chetco point. Got a lot of adventuring to do that's for sure. Need a fish finder  :-\

Did you launch from the surf just off the south jetty? I played around in the surf in my kayak on that boat trip. It was just before dark and the surf was fun. I caught a small ling in the kelp beds just off the north jetty. I really need to get back there!
I just got a new FF. It's a hummingbird 196CI. I have no complaints. It installed easy and reads bottom structure well.

Umm I actually launch at the boat ramp...but as soon as I get some motivation I will have a trail cut down to river and I can launch from there...I'm only a few hundred yards from the mouth...and the kelp beds around north Jetty are a good spot for lings in the spring that's for sure.

That's awesome. You have some awesome fishing grounds! Good luck with your kayak rigging. If I make it down there I'll shoot you a pm. It's always more fun to fish with others.

when  I launch from the docks in Brookings....I put in at the commercial fuel dock. A short ramp with little to no traffic, and the Port employees are cool with it, just stay out of the fueling lane.

Welcome!
You've got a great kayak fishing situation down there.  I love kayak fishing in Brookings!  I've only been a few times, but it's an amazing place.  I've launched from the beach next to the south jetty, Harris Beach, and Crissey Field.  There are a couple of other spots down there I would have liked to check out, but not enough time.  Tight Lines!

I have private access in several places along the beach between the Winchuck and Chetco. The Winchuck Reef is only a few hundred yards out, but kinda rocky launches.

Do any salmon fishing out of your kayak? I really want to give it a shot... Only been out a couple times in a boat for salmon, wondering if trolling would be productive.

Lots of guys do an amazing job fishing salmon from their kayaks.  If you do some searches you can find loads of info on it.  I have only caught a couple of salmon from my yak... the chum was on a bobber... the king was a fluke... but i hooked him on a point wilson dart.
