Sunny but cold! 48 degrees at 230 pm Saturday.

I took my brother in law along for his first time in a kayak! I had the new adventure and he borrowed my outback.

Seas were about 2 feet, and a 5 knot wind.

I threw my sail up and hauled butt 2 miles out! I had a small window of time to fish cause the current was blowing me south fast. I saw 2 boats around me get halibut so I put down and got a bite but I lost it. I fished for about 30 more minutes then headed in.

Sunday

Flat and calm. We rode the tide north ended up about 8 miles away. Right in front if happy valey. We held position there and fished. I got a hit and missed. Then Shortly after a hit like a freight train! The rod just bowed, for a minute I thought I just snagged bottom. I was making a wake but I thought it must be from the current. My bil said no dude your movin! I could see his legs frantically pumping away trying to catch me.

After about 10 minutes I got a nice 30-40 pound halibut in!

Then my bil got a hit! We fought that fish for 30 minutes! I was even hanging onto his kayak trying to help tire the  Fish.

We finally started gaining ground on it and he got it within 20 feet. Then the hook popped out! So big bummer! But what a sleigh ride for your first kayak hookup!

A couple hours later I was slammed again! About 20 yard of line flew off the reel then the line went slack. I reeled in and even still had my bait!

Saw some porpoises. And finally after 9 hours at sea we made it back to camp!

Good show Matt! Was this the first time you peddled the AI in saltwater? How'd she handle? I'll bet you're spoiled now to moving easily through the water...

Nice fish!

It's good seeing the AI getting blood on it so soon!

Keep it up!
