Heading up to Timothy Lake this weekend and would like to try my hand at catching some kokanee. I have never fished for this fish before so I’m looking for any suggestions on gear as well as places to start trolling. I believe I’m camping at Hood View or something like that. I will be fishing from a Revo 13 and I don’t have a downrigger as of yet just a pole holder. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and info you might provide.

We camped at Hoodview last weekend and had a blast. I caught half a dozen or so fish in the early to late mornings. Of those, two were small Kokanee.

I caught all of them trolling a rooster tail. I didn't use weight or have to get it deep, but it did seem to help if I kept it aways out from the boat. I'd switched lures after trolling a wedding ring on a leader behind some small flashers to no avail.

There's a school of Kokanee near the dock at Hoodview. Often, they would swim up and take a look whenever I reeled in my gear.

Good luck.

Pete

My wife and I camped at Hood View campground Sunday and Monday nights. We spent monday trolling Rooster tails. Black w/silver blade was the top gitter and we both limited.  Had pan fried trout and a cold one by the fire that night.

Them black rooster tails sure are deadly aren't they?

Thanks for the info. I walked out of fisherman’s yesterday a couple hundred lighter and got every color but black lol. Well time to go back.

If I'm never seen again I'm sure my wife had something to do with it.

Have a great weekend everyone and thanks again for this wonderful resource.
