How does the seal go on the new drive? The kit that was sent came with 2 zip ties, the kit that came with my 2011 came with screws.

But I see no way to wrap zip ties around the spot in the instructions and there is no holes drilled in the drive for screws.

The two rubber pieces look identical.
And looking at the new drive it almost looks like a seal is built in and maybe not required?

Drive on the left is my 2011, the one in the right is my 2013

Zip ties?! Really? That is just lazy. I have a 2013 Outback but my mirage drive has the screw on seal...I feel sort of ripped off haha. Do I have an older drive and a newer boat?! That would be lame.

Did the screw holes in the drive come pre drilled?

Yes...I just screwed the flappy deal down. I don't feel like it really does anything.

The 2013 drive should have two small holes drilled in the top of the spine.

It does lower the amount of water that flows into the drive well
See ya on the water..

Mmmhhh I guess they forgot to drill the holes in mine. Can you guys tell by the pic if the drive on the right is in fact a 2013 model? I don't know the difference

Yours looks like a new model to me. It does appear to have a flange on the lower part of the spine that I know my 2012 drive doesn't have. If nothing else you could drill a couple small pilot holes into the top of the spine for the rubber seal, but maybe you don't need it. ( I don't think it'd hurt to have both.)

Yeah - I'm pretty sure that is a 2013. I see the centering pin, similar to the one on my 2012, but the flange Skidplate mentions isn't on my 2012 either.

FWIW, I don't use the seal. The splash isn't that much, and it makes it harder to see that the drive is seated correctly. I also don't like the centering pin.

Gotta be a 2013 drive. The 2012 drive has a removable centering pin and according to Google image search the 2013 drive has a built in pin with a fin.

2013: No removable pin.

2012: With pin removed, just a hole.

2012: With pin.

2011 and older: No pin hole.

...And how quickly the pee flows out.  Just sayin'. :)

This may not help with the 2013 version, but for those with the straight spine this is now how Hobie thinks it should mount. A couple of years ago mine came with screws. I don't have a centering pin and don't have problems centering.

this was more along the lines of what I was thinking.  I'd just make a mess.
