Hey Guys,

I haven't had much experience in a Kayak, but I am developing a strong need to get out there and do some Saltwater Kayak fishing. Hopefully, sooner than later, I will be able to add to the conversation. For now I will try and learn what I can until I can put it into action.

Welcome Xan. Every one of us is learning and applying new ideas as we try to build a little kayak fishing community in Alaska. Still early days here. We're happy to have you among us.  Last year, most of us were able to get together to start the season with with Anchor Point Calcutta, chasing Kings from Whiskey Gulch. I hope you can make it.  What kind of a yak do you use?

Right now all I have is a couple of very slightly used inflatables that I have kicked around the lakes on a couple of times. So I am still needing to acquire one I can use in the salt.

Hoping to have one outfitted by Summer. Still not sure of the yak I want to get. In shopping mode right now.

Welcome Xanfly39!!  What part of the state are you in??

You have found the right place to get the info you need!  I'm a newbie at this Kayak fishing thing as well.  This will be season number three basically.  I'm trying to put together a little more Alaska specific info here.  Nothing fancy.  AlaskaKayakFisher.com

Join the few of us in the Alaska section on this site and help us out!  Everybody here is just amazing and super helpful.

AKfishin, I am so so so thankful I didn't do what a few of my friends did and go out and purchase a 24 - 26 ft powerboat with dual 115's or 150's.  With the fuel price, I get invited at least several times a month to "split" the fuel costs!  100 plus gallons a weekend they can run if they go out towards Knight Island or Montague.  as it is. my river skiff and 21 ft center console haven't even been started in three years....

I hear ya Akfishin, didn't even launch in the salt last year. Was cheaper to hit a couple of charters.

kardinal_84 from Palmer here.
Checked out your site, cool vid's!

I run a 16 footer out of Seward mostly, gas for the boat is cheap, not so much for the 6 hours on the road. Plus I think you have as much or more range than I do, if you throw in a taxi rides, and more favorable launch locations.

This is a solo venture for me, so it will be good to have knowledge close by.

Yea, I had a 22' Osprey Fisherman with a 5.0 Volvo Penta.  Amazing boat, but man she was thirsty.  100 gallons of boat fuel and 150.00 for the tow rig, geez.... There goes 600 bucks!

Funny you're in Palmer Xan, I'm just over in Wasilla.

I have just enough friends with big boats to keep that temptation away. Lol.

Might have to hook up sometime soon since we are close.
