Soooo, based on a few suggestions, I went out at lunch today and picked up a new, heavier duty rod/reel set-up for trolling and plunking. I matched a WW Grigg 9' graphite rod, 20-50#, and an Ambassadeur 6501 C3 strung with 25# line. This is the same reel as on the Berkely IM7 rod I have.

I believe I have the rods I need for the yak when I'm not fly fishing...now to convince the family accountant  :nono:

That certainly ought to do it for salmon trolling and plunking as well as sturgeon fishing if you want to give it try.

Good luck with the family accountant.  There are days I wish I had an off shore account somewhere where I could hide all my fishing expenditures.

Speaking of new rods, I bought one today myself for my 2 yr old son.  Watching him "practice" today in the rain was pretty fun.

Both of those new outfits sound sweet.

When I was a kid, I use to use a rubber worm to cast for "catfish". ;D

lol on the worm statement...i have a penn 330gti levelwind on a penn #30-80 rod i believe (its in south carolina because i didnt' see any use for it in Nebraska lol...but it is definately being shipped to seattle)
is that overkill for the kind of fishing in the area?
looks like its about right from the pictures i see...maybe a little on high side

Sounds a little heavy, but will be good for halibut and sturgeon.
