Today My nephew and I ventured on our first ocean fishing trip and beach launch. He is real new to kayaking and we have been practicing in the rivers and bays.

We launched at 6:00am sharp into a beautiful ocean. I do have to say for myself it was exhilarating to head dead on with a 3-4' wave. What a RUSH! For my nephew I told him to do the same, and as I broke through the first wave I looked back to see him peddling, he was going in reverse. I yelled out "you have your drive in backwards" and watching him I could not help but laugh. He did not roll, but he did get pretty wet, I almost wet myself from laughing.

We had a great time and caught fish. My nephew did an awesome job of landing, and surfed it like a pro. The swell was a bit bigger coming in. I on the other was mirage driving in and doing good (nervous as HE double hockey sticks) and all of a sudden my drive pops out! I grabbed my paddle and pulled the rudder and went balls out. I did great as a wave came in and surfed it well. It was the one wave behind it that I was not ready for, I nearly rolled. If it had not been for the 1' of water I was in I think I would have rolled.

I would have recorded it, but after charging my Go Pro last night It would not stay on.

The best fish of the day 21" Sea Bass.

Way to get out there Keelhauled

Sounds like you had a great time ------and learned about yourself and your capabilities. Keep growing.

  Nice bass too.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Great report - that's a nice rockfish! Where did you launch out of?

Really cool that you're taking your nephew out too - good to get kids started young with being safe and comfortable on the water. Also nice to have a fishing partner!
