Roy,

Thanks for the videos.  You make a strong case for the easy launch at Sunset Beach.

I'm also impressed on how many different common names you use for black rockfish... black snapper, black cod, black rockfish, etc..

Hey Roy,

Sorry I shouldn't pick on you about fish names, but...the officially sanctioned common name by the American Fisheries Society is "Black Rockfish".  "Snapper" and "cod" are actually two completely different families of fish from the rockfish.  I also think you'll find that if you wanted to find more info on these fish online, "black rockfish" would get you the most results.  Oh, and if you're a fish geek like me you'd call them Sebastes melanops.  The reason scientists use scientific names is that they avoid regional common names.

If it were anybody else hastling Roy over fish names I'd have to jump in and tell them to get over it.  >:(  But seeing as you make your living off such details, I'll cut you some slack .... this time... fish geek  ;)

Thanks for having my back Spot.. It's actually nice to know what the real name is without having to look in a book, just ask Brian. I called 'em a black Bass the first time i caught, one. That tells you what i know.

I remember when the charter captains out of Westport (WA) used to call them "black seabass".  ::)
