While this isn't a kayak fishing question, ....has anyone fished the lower Deshutes.  I'm going on a three day drift boat trip on the lower fifty miles of the river. I'm planning on picking up a temp license.  Pumped (Or is it pumpy-ed) for the humpy tournament

I've only fished from the bank up by Maupin and then from the bank down by the mouth.

Good luck.

Lower D is bank or with your feet firmly planted in the riverbed fishing only. Cant fish from a boat. I want to say the only stretch you can fish from a boat is from Wickiup to Benham Falls.

The bonne dam counts are increasing finally so fishing should be good. Seems to be a dawn to 1-2ish show for steelhead right now because of water temps climbing in the afternoon. The afternoon / evening caddis hatches have been great. Watch for buzz worms and ticks! Bumper year for both!

Thanks threecreeks.

Two questions:

1.  Any suggested tackle (I'm not a fly guy...yet)?
2.  What are buzz worms?

I've read the regs and know i can't fish from a boat and....have to bring a portable loo :-\

Super cool country in the canyon. I'm a fly guy but slip bobbers and jigs, blue foxes, etc should get the job done.
