Not in a Kayak, but still impressive.
Fox News also has an interview where he said he battled a snag for 10 minutes before he then winched the 225 lb "snag" up from the deep. :o

From now on, I'm blaming all my snags on oversized halibut.  ;D

This "story" has been making the rounds recently.  Of course it was published last May when the fish was caught.   ::)

Doh!! You'd think the OP would have caught that.  :-\

Still - that's one heck of a catch.

Hmm, not sure I want to tangle with a butt that big in a Kayak.

Do you think you could wrangle that onto a kayak?

Honestly, I don't know.  But I'd really regret not trying.

The fighting and landing part would definitely be a thrill. but with the proper use of a flying gaff and buoy it's do-able.

I believe that dragging a 200lb monster back to shore would present the biggest challenge.  I've fished Dungeness Spit and the 3 mile trek back to the launch would be a killer!

Oh yeah, Thanks for the vote of confidence Pam!  ;D

No, you can't. If you come across halibut somewhere, you bring it straight to me and I'll dispose of it properly.

Lee is actually right ... Sort of.

After halibut hit about 200 pounds their bodies develop an enzyme that makes the meat soft and mushy. It is even reported to cause 'gastric issues' for some people.

Well... I thought that if people don't eat flounder because it has a lot of contamination, what about a such 200+ pound halibut? It definitely takes time to grow to a such size. What would be the quality of fish meat?
