I do most of my fishing in American lake during the winter and spring,  what I found was that as it heats up target the thermocline, if you have a fish finder on your kayak that makes it easy, find where the greatest concentration of fish are at most of the time.  the lake is fairly warm at this point so you probably want to fish fairly deep.  use a Deep 6 diver if you don't have a down rigger with a small dodger and a wedding ring or small hoochie with 2 single hooks mooching rig style.  Thread a nightcrawler onto the two hooks and throw a bit of scent on it, i like to use anise.  I have a 2 rod endorsement so I always use two rods out there, one deep on the down rigger or if the fishing is fast and furious a deep 6 diver and the other with a rapala style lure, i generally go with a Yozuri because i feel they have a superior paint job, they use lead in their paint which allows for a greater spectrum of light to reflect off of it.  The trout will be there all year and the pinks will only be around for a few months so i would suggest targeting them while they are still hot then moving to the little guys once there isn't anything else around to fish for.   Good luck!

Yup, zzzactly what W&E said...only thing I'd add is don't forget about the outstanding smallmouth bass that readily hammer a senko worm around most every boat dock!

Chris! Good to see you on the forums! Congrats on the new boat. This might be a little biased but I think you are smart for opting for the Outback over a power boat.
Welcome aboard! The sickness only gets worse my friend. You need to make a trip down here! We haven't fished together since high school!
